Ask an Analyst

The Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) invites the research community to take advantage of our drop-in “Ask An Analyst” sessions. These opportunities are designed for researchers seeking assistance with general questions on preparing and submitting protocols for IRB review.

Join us every Thursday 3 – 4 pm (excluding holidays). Feel free to stop by at any point during this hour!

Ask An Analyst Drop-In Zoom Link

For Studies Already Submitted via iStar:  If your study has already been assigned an analyst in iStar, please reach out to them directly for support. To find out who your analyst is, log in to iStar and click the title of the study you want to check. In the middle of the screen, there is a “Summary” box, which contains the analyst’s name. To contact your analyst, use the “Send Message to IRB” activity on the left side of the page. Click here to view sample image.

For Multi-Site Studies: Researchers should reach out to reliance@usc.edu  prior to attending an “Ask An Analyst” session. For more information on multi-site and ceded studies, please visit our website.

What to Expect:

Scope of Assistance:  Please note that these sessions are not intended for assistance with study design. We cannot offer scientific review.

Determinations:  No official determinations will be made during these sessions. Guidance may evolve once the study has been formally documented and submitted and assigned for review.

Special Cases: If your proposed study presents unique regulatory challenges, we will connect you to a specialist outside of the “Ask An Analyst” framework.

If you’re unable to attend the drop-in hours, you can request a meeting by completing this Form, providing 3 to 4 potential dates and times for our team to coordinate—please allow up to one week for scheduling. Once confirmed, you will receive an Outlook meeting invitation complete with a Zoom link.

We look forward to assisting you with your research needs!
